Dua Lipa is living her dream, as she will release her third studio album, “Radical Optimism,” on May 3. She had envisioned this album even before making her professional music debut in 2017. The album is ready seven years later, and we can’t wait to hear the new material. Dua Lipa’s “Radical Optimism” tour starts in June.
As Dua Lipa recently shared on the Zach Sang Show, the idea behind the new album is to share positivity. Maybe that shouldn’t surprise anyone since she conjured most of the album during the COVID-19 pandemic when everyone needed optimism, joy, and happiness.
“Radical optimism’ followed me through these past few years where things might not go the way that I envision them to, things might not work out the way that I want them to, things might, you know, whatever that may be, but it doesn’t mean that it’s to be all and end all or it’s the end of something or… Quite the contrary, it’s actually the beginning, or it pushes you and propels you to grow and to change and to see things from a different perspective, and so radical optimism just became more and more prevalent. So everything that I was writing had an optimistic flare.”
Dua Lipa
This promises to be quite a different album from what we heard before from Dua Lipa. Primal Scream, Blur, Oasis, and Massive Attack sounds influenced the album, a tribute to UK rave culture. Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker collaborated on the album. He is part of the music and production team behind singles “Houdini,” “Training Season,” and “Illusion.”
The singer will host SNL on May 4, a day after the album’s debut. We hope to hear a new song from the album performed live during the legendary show.
“Radical Optimism” Tracklist

Training Season came on February 15, 2024. Third, and so far last single, “Illusion,” saw the light of day on April 11.

“Radical Optimism” Album Cover
The cover for “Radical Optimism” strikingly captures the album’s spirit. The cover shows Dua Lipa floating in the ocean, calm and composed, as a shark approaches, symbolizing facing life’s chaos with elegance. Dua explains that the cover reflects facing danger yet staying strong and poised.
The leading color of the album’s cover is blue. She explains in an episode of the Zack Sang show that the blue color refers to optimism and that the red color, as the color of the heart, is more radical. According to the primary color and its variances on her cover album, the decision was to stay optimistic rather than radical. Still, we can also recognize the dualism, especially if we read the message she brings with her hair color on the Zack Sand show, in which she explains the album cover. Also, we noticed that one of the physical editions of the album has a red color as a basis.
Also, “swim with sharks” refers to operating among dangerous people. What is Dua Lipa afraid of? Who are the sharks around her, and in what business is she? If you want to survive dangerous situations, it’s best not to panic. To succeed or even handle tough challenges like swimming with sharks, you must be bold, radical, or extreme—whatever that means in the music industry.
