One of the most authentic new Serbian music bands in the last couple of years, Alice in Wonderband (AIW), and the music group CISI are promoting a new song. “Ko peva zlo ne misli” is a collaboration between Alice in WonderBand and the Polish duo CISI that will be released on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, 1:00 PM EST / 1:00 PM CEST / May 23, 2024, 3:00 AM NSW.
The root melody of “Ko peva zlo ne misli” is Jewish, but Alice in WonderBand and CISI have made it their own. The band’s music is easily recognizable by using the body as a percussion. Ana Vrbashki (Ana Vrbaški) and Julia Lewandowska sing harmoniously for the song. Marko Dinjashki (Marko Dinjaški) is a body percussionist using every part of his body to create a fantastic, unique sound. Lukasz Malok (Łukasz Malok) is the composer and arranger for the song.
The song is an excellent mix of Łukasz sound exploration, with Ana and Julia’s voices supporting the rhythm. Marko’s seven-eight Balkan rhythm spiced it up, accomplishing what a collaboration set can do: a dancy-dreamy tune.
“The Jewish melodic theme became the base for the Serbian proverb ‘Ko peva zlo ne misli’ (The one who sings means no harm), which was finished by the imaginary continuation in Polish ‘a kto tańczy, prawie do nieba szedł’ (and the one who dances goes to heaven)”.

“Ko peva zlo ne misli” also has an exciting music video. I’m unsure if this was their intent, but it reminded me that we are still part of nature, even in this digital era. We need human closeness; sometimes, everybody must go silly and dance like no one is watching. Super versatile Julia Lewandowska edited and directed the music video for the song.
Where Can You See Alice in Wonderband and CISI Perform “Ko peva zlo ne misli”?
CISI and Alice in Wonderband have announced their concert that will take place on June 1, 2024, in Krakow at Przestrzeń Ruchu i Tańca Kontakt. This could be the only occasion to hear both bands together in a while, so if you are near Krakow, don’t miss it.
