If you enjoy Norah Jones’s music and electronic beats, “Licorice” EP is a perfect match for you.

In her debut EP, “Licorice,” Kamille Scipio blends emotion and sound to create a captivating, genre-defying musical tapestry. Each track on this enchanting collection reveals a different facet of Scipio’s artistry, showcasing her versatility and emotive prowess.

Long Before

Opening the EP with a mesmerizing allure, “Long Before” serves as an ode to Scipio’s love for found sound. Haunting mezzo-soprano vocals and evocative lyrics immerse listeners in an eerie outsider’s umwelt. Against a backdrop of piano, persistent sine waves, and intricate rhythms, Scipio weaves a wonderfully Stygian masterpiece.

Houndstooth

“Houndstooth” explores boundarylessness, with melodic minimalism immersing the audience in a melancholic scene by water. Kamille Scipio’s soulful delivery transitions from an admonishment of a heedless lover to a heavenward anthem. Energetic harmonies and explosive percussion meet in a genre-bending celebration of love that uplifts and challenges.

Contender

The penultimate track, “Contender” reveals Kamille Scipio at her most vulnerable, offering unfiltered honesty and deep longing. This song seamlessly blends electronic grooves with poignant lyricism, exploring the yearning for a return to innocence. Pads swirl and whir, adding tonality to a piece fraught with distress and sensuality. Scipio’s pensive voice, suspended within the danceable track, draws listeners in with its poignancy.

Wish You Were Here

Closing the EP, “Wish You Were Here” exudes a refreshing, upbeat tone, offering a taste of Scipio’s musical prowess. Infectious rhythms and uplifting chords conceal somber lyrics hinting at decay. Entirely self-produced, Kamille Scipio establishes herself as a force to be reckoned with in the music scene.

“WYWH is a song about insatiability. I think I’d mostly become fed up with how things were panning out between me and someone I thought was pretty cool. Turns out it was the feeling they’d given me that was worth sticking around for – the waking up to just how deep my longing goes. That was very thrilling. WYWH feels like a breath of fresh air and a rare track from a time spent writing really sad songs.”
