Shortly About Jelly Roll
Take a few minutes to read some interesting information about this great artist. Please read about how Jelly became famous, what awards he won, and his massive album list.
How Did Jelly Roll Get Famous?
Jelly Roll is the stage name of Jason Bradly DeFord, a 39-year-old songwriter and country singer who started his career as a rapper. He was born in Antioch, Tennessee. Raised in a neighborhood of the capital of country music, Nashville, it is unsurprising that most of his early musical influences were country-beloved superstars like Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Jim Croce.
Jelly Roll started writing music as a child. He wrote his first rap song when he was only 9 or 10. By eighth grade, he was already sharing his mixtapes. His musical breakthrough was the song “Pop Another Hit.” The song went viral on YouTube, reached over 6.3 million views, and a star was born. He first appeared on Billboard 200 with the album “Strictly Business.”
On May 9, 2020, “Dead Man Walking” became Jelly Roll’s first number-one hit on rock radio.
Three years later, “Son of a Sinner” climbed the carts and was his first number-one song on Country radio.
In 2023, he released his first massive hit album, “Whitsitt Chapel.” The album reached the third spot on Billboard’s top list.
“This is a moment I want to take to thank the fans for everything they’ve done for me. I want to thank God. I want to thank my beautiful wife and my daughter at home. One year ago, I was invited to perform at my first awards show, and I walked on this stage, and I sang ‘Need A Favor’ on national television for the first time right here. What I am emotional about is that in the last year, you have changed my life in every way I would have never thought my life could be changed.”

“Whitsitt Chapel” Album Cover: The Story Behind
Music and visuals go hand in hand. Album covers always have interesting stories, and this time, for this article, we decided to dig a bit into the album “Whitsitt Chapel.” The album cover of “Whitsitt Chapel” by Jelly Roll features a special place – a church he often visited during his teenage years in Antioch, Tennessee. This church is nestled along a scenic back road beside a lake, creating a pathway between Donelson and Antioch. It’s an old-school, back road church with a Baptist revival style.
Jelly Roll designed this album to capture the essence of a peaceful Sunday morning drive to that church, bringing you back to your roots as you glide through the mist rising from Percy Priest Lake. The church on the cover is not just a building; it symbolizes a spiritual and emotional journey, much like the one Jelly Roll invites his listeners to join through his music.
