After 21 years, Peter Gabriel Releases New Album “I/O”

This week, the new, tenth album of Peter Gabriel will be released. The album is titled “I/O” and sales will begin on Friday, 01/12/2023.

In 2023, Peter Gabriel debuted a series of new songs, unveiling one with every full moon as a preview for his upcoming album. He has already performed some of the songs at his concerts in Europe, the USA, and Great Britain. This album marks Peter Gabriel’s first release in 21 years.

“After a years-worth of full moon releases, I’m very happy to see all these new songs back together on the good ship I/O and ready for their journey out into the world,” Gabriel said of his new album in a press release”.

“I/O” will consist of 12 tracks and will be available in various formats, including CD and vinyl, alongside the digital version. While the official release date hasn’t been confirmed, pre-sales began in October 2023. The album is available on platforms such as Bandcamp, Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Deezer, and YouTube.

Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios recorded the upcoming album. Notably, guitarist David Rhodes, bassist Tony Levin, drummer Manu Katché, and pianist Tom Cawley were involved in its creation. Additionally, the album features contributions from the South African Soweto Gospel Choir and the Swedish Oprhei Drängar Male Choir. Several tracks on the album bear the imprint of Brian Eno‘s involvement.

The musician released the debut single from the upcoming album, titled “Panopticom,” in January 2023, marking their first new song since 2016. The musician’s daughter Melanie contributes backing vocals, and Brian Eno plays keyboards in the track “Four Kinds of Horses,” released in May 2023.

In 2002, Peter Gabriel released his previous album, “Up.” Gabriel said that he has been working on “I/O” since 2001.

Peter Gabriel will present each track from the new album “I/O” in two distinct stereo mixes. Mark “Spike” Stent produced the “Bright-Side Mix,” and Tchad Blake handled the “Dark-Side Mix. Hans-Martin Buff will exclusively offer the “In-Side Mix” as a third remix on the version of “I/O” distributed across three media formats (CD, record/vinyl).
