U2, one of the most popular Irish rock bands ever, has delighted fans with a new song, “Atomic City.” This release comes after a two-year hiatus since their last song.
The new song, “Atomic City,” serves as a tribute to Blondie, Giovanni Giorgio Moroder, and the city of Las Vegas. Blondie and Moroder’s “Call Me” influence can be readily observed in the song’s sound. “Atomic City” is a nickname for the city of Las Vegas, and in the music video for the song, the city takes center stage amidst collages featuring the band’s members.
“Atomic City” draws inspiration from the famous Las Vegas “Strip”. Interestingly, on 30/09/2023, the band inaugurated the ultra-modern Sphere venue in Las Vegas, USA. Notably, U2 has not only inaugurated the venue but has also scheduled 25 concerts from 20/09/2023 to 16/12/2023, as part of their tour.
The song’s video features all band members: Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. Unfortunately, Larry recently underwent surgery and is currently in recovery, which means he won’t be able to participate in the band’s upcoming concerts. Instead, Dutch drummer Bram van den Berg will handle the drumming duties during these shows.
“That’s what U2’s been trying to do all along with our satellite stages and video installations, most memorably on the Zoo TV Tour, which ended in Tokyo 30 years ago this Fall.”
“Sphere is more than just a venue, it’s a gallery and U2’s music is going to be all over the walls,” adds The Edge. “The beauty of Sphere is not only the ground-breaking technology that will make it so unique, with the world’s most advanced audio system, integrated into a structure which is designed with sound quality as a priority; it’s also the possibilities around immersive experience in real and imaginary landscapes.
“In short, it’s a canvas of an unparalleled scale and image resolution and a once-in-a-generation opportunity. We all thought about it and decided we’d be mad not to accept the invitation.”

Before “Atomic City,” U2’s last song was “Your Song Saved My Life,” released in 2021.
