AQUA Takes Barbie On Tour

The Danish-Norwegian pop trio AQUA has announced its tour that promises to captivate fans of 90s dance-pop music. One of the biggest hits of this band is “Barbie Girl”. Coinciding with the release of the highly popular film “Barbie“, the tour arrives at an opportune time, benefiting from the movie’s widespread appeal. Moreover, the title track “Barbie World” from the movie, performed by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, incorporates elements from AQUA’s song, offering an additional boost to their forthcoming tour.

“We’ve been working for this for 27 years! Performing two sold out shows in NYC and L.A. this summer was a dream come true, and to be able to come back soon for a nationwide tour is absolutely insane. We cannot wait to meet everyone for the first time, face to face.”

The US tour kicks off 12/11/2023 at the Paramount Theater and runs through 20/12/2023. If there are no unforeseen changes, the last concert will be held in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium. During the tour, the band will perform at 20 locations.

The band has already performed in New York and Los Angeles this year.

Who is AQUA?

AQUA was formed in 1994 by vocalists Rene Dif, Lene Nystrøm, keyboardist Søren Rasted and guitarist Klaus Norreen, who is no longer part of the band. They began working under the name Joyspeed, but quickly changed it to AQUA. The band became famous in the second half of the 90s and the beginning of the 2000s. They released 3 albums – Aquarium, Aquarius and Megalomania. Their albums and singles have sold 33 million copies. AQUA is the most profitable Danish group in history. Their most popular song “Barbie Girl” topped the charts in 20 countries and sold 10 million copies. The popularity of the song did not please Mattel – the manufacturer of the popular Barbie doll – who sued them for copyright infringement. In the end, the lawsuit was dismissed.

Besides “Barbie Girl”, the band’s most popular songs are “Doctor Jones”, “Turn Back Time” and “Lollipop (Candyman)”.
