Early in 2026, the Metal-Punk fans should expect a new EP by Sons of Lioth. “Creature Features,” a concept album by the Belgian Heavy Metal-Punk band Sons of Lioth that consists of six songs, each addressing a different theme within the same atmosphere; a story that could perfectly fit a campy horror film. Wild, otherworldly premises with a hint of social criticism.

  1. Moth Lady is about a man with many worldly worries who struggles to fall asleep at night. He is developing a serious case of sleep deprivation, and as a result, he conjures a dreamworld of hallucinations that takes hold of him. In this twilight zone, a mothlike woman pulls all the strings. She tries to seduce him, finally eating his soul and sucking his life energy. We’ve all been there.
  2. Bottomless Pit is a deep well in the desert that swallows people who have (or definitely should have) a guilty conscience; crooked politicians, fascist genocidal warmongers or polluting industrialists from the establishment. This flesh-eating monster is somewhat reminiscent of the Great Pit of Carkoon, home to the Sarlacc, primarily known for its appearance in Return of the Jedi.
  3. Schrödinger’s Dessert. Schrödinger’s cat is a thought experiment about the paradoxes of quantum mechanics, specifically the concept of superposition. Based on this brainbreaker, a mad cook in the back of a dirty restaurant is preparing a cat’s brain in a pot and serving it to his customers, driving them insane. Let that sink in for a bit.
  4. Hollow Moon. Based on a conspiracy theory proposed by the Author David Icke. He claims the moon is artificial and hollow; A space station occupied by shape-shifting lizards that control mankind while masquerading as the world’s human elite.
  5. Ectoplasm. In this story good naive souls with a fascination for the spiritual and occult come into contact with a fluorescent green/white slime entity who uses atmospheric forces (heat, lightning, wind,..) to convince people that it is merely a harmless ghostly friend. I’m not gonna hurt you… I’m just gonna eeeeeaaaat you!
  6. Cosmic Wail. The earth is fed up with the evil that men do and retaliates through one of its spirit animals, the killer whale. With fierce determination, this magnificent beast sinks BP oil rigs and Exxon tanker ships.

About the Sons of Lioth

Back in 2006, Belgium-based heavy metal five-piece Sons of Lioth was formed. Quite randomly and on a fluke, the band started out as a pastiche of theatrical metal acts such as Spinal Tap, Manowar & Blind Guardian, and recorded 5 demo songs bringing medieval tales of sorcerers, dungeons, and dragons. Not anticipating any form of success, and despite the use of goofy stage outfits, the first shows following the demo release were a local sensation, and in that same wave of enthusiasm, a second demo was forged, “Legends”. Hometown fans enjoyed the brisk, nostalgic sing-alongs, somewhat reminiscent of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest songs.

After that, the brotherhood changed gear. Holding on to a shared love for shredding guitar sequences and weird tales drenched in zany undertones, EP’s “Large Hadron Collider Spider” and “Judge Hammer” were contrived. Still sporting a DIY attitude but open to a broader myriad of influences, these recordings conveyed a reshaped Sons of Lioth sound that now opts for a more punky approach to the heavy metal genre. Still lining up the original bandmembers, the group has a twenty-year anniversary coming up and wants to celebrate with a fresh release early 2026.
