Who Was Perry Ramonte?

Perry Archangelo Bamonte was an English musician and artist, best known as a guitarist and keyboardist for The Cure from 1990 to 2005 and again from 2022 to 2024.

Early Life

Born on September 3, 1960, in London, England, Bamonte grew up in Basildon and attended school with Martin Gore of Depeche Mode. His younger brother, Daryl, worked as a tour manager for The Cure and Depeche Mode, connecting Perry to the music industry.

Career with The Cure

Bamonte joined The Cure’s road crew in 1984 as guitar technician and personal assistant to Robert Smith, learning keyboards from Smith’s sister Janet. Promoted to full member in 1990 after Roger O’Donnell’s departure, he played guitar, keyboards, six-string bass, and percussion on albums including Wish (1992), Wild Mood Swings (1996), Bloodflowers (2000), and The Cure (2004). He performed over 400 shows across 14 years, shifted to lead guitar after Porl Thompson’s 1993 exit, and rejoined in 2022 for the Shows of a Lost World tour, playing 90 more shows.

Later Work and Interests

Dismissed amicably in 2005 with O’Donnell, Bamonte pursued fly fishing, illustration for Fly Culture magazine, and bass in Love Amongst Ruin’s 2015 album Lose Your Way. He appeared at The Cure’s 2019 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.
