What is Pickleball?
Pickleball is a racquet sport played by two (singles) or four (doubles) players who use racquets to hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball over a low net 86 cm high. The game is played indoors or outdoors on a court measuring approximately 13.4 m long and 6 m wide. In pickleball, there is a 2.1 m wide zone on both sides of the net where the ball must bounce before being hit. The court and rules make pickleball dynamic and easy to learn. It is a combination of tennis, ping-pong (table tennis), and badminton. Only the one who serves can score points. Pickleball was invented in 1965 in the United States, on Bainbridge Island in Washington state, and today it is a very popular sport for all ages.
Pickleball combines fun and fitness, is suitable for beginners, has small courts, and a different rhythm compared to traditional racquet sports. The game can be played both individually and in pairs, with a specific scoring system, where three numbers are used for points for doubles, and two for singles games.
Pickleball is now developing as a sport in Macedonia, with the participation of the Macedonian national team in the European Championship.
