Massive Attack Guitarist Angelo Bruschini Passed Away

Angelo Bruschini, the guitarist of Massive Attack, passed away on 23/10/2023, after battling lung cancer. The band officially confirmed the death of the 62-year-old guitarist.

“Devastated.

How lucky we all were to share such a life together.

Such a brilliant, eccentric talent.

Impossible to quantify your contribution

RIP Angelo.”

The now deceased Angelo Bruschini himself confirmed his illness in a Facebook post:

“Twice now I have been told ‘Good luck’ by specialist’s at the hospital over lung cancer, I think I’m f**ked! Had a great life, seen the world many many times, met lots of wonderful people, but the door is closing, think I will write a book.”

The passed-away Angelo Bruschini was not considered a part of Massive Attack’s core line-up. However, starting in 1997 during the recording of the “Mezzanine” album, he became the group’s consistent guitarist, contributing both in the studio and during live performances. Born in 1960 in Bristol, Great Britain, Bruschini had previously been associated with bands such as The Numbers, Rimshots, and The Blue Airplanes. His involvement with Massive Attack as a permanent member began with the release of the “Mezzanine” album.

Despite not being among the group’s original founders, Angelo Bruschini undeniably played a significant role in shaping the evolution of Massive Attack’s sound. He contributed to key albums such as “Mezzanine” (1998), “100th Window” (2003), and “Heligoland” (2010). Some of Massive Attack’s most notable tracks, including “Teardrop,” “Inertia Creeps,” “Butterfly Caught,” and “Paradise Circus,” can be found on these albums.

In addition to his work as a guitarist for Massive Attack, Angelo Bruschini also served as a producer for Strangelove’s album. He also made a guest appearance on Jane Taylor’s single “Blowing This Candle Out” in 2003.
